Postgraduate Loan - What happens if you've been paid too much

Sometimes you can be paid too much Postgraduate Loan. This can happen if you’ve:

  • withdrawn from your course before your next loan payment date and this payment is still made;
  • been assessed as eligible for the Postgraduate Loan and then at a later date been reassessed as ineligible. For example, you don’t meet the residency requirements or are found to already hold an equivalent level of qualification.

Any amount you’re overpaid will need to be repaid as soon as possible even if you earn below the repayment threshold. We’ll contact you to arrange a repayment plan.

You’ll also need to tell your university/college and your funding body (Student Finance England/Student Finance Wales) immediately, when you decide to withdraw from your course. If you’re an EU student, contact Student Finance Services.
