If you took out a loan after September 1st 1998, the repayment threshold for residents who live in the United Kingdom is currently set at £15,000. In other words, graduates and former students with an annual salary of over £15,000 are required to repay their loans.
If you are an overseas resident, the Student Loans Company work out your monthly repayment schedule using the same principles as for those who stay in the UK. So, you will repay 9% of your earnings over the repayment threshold.
To take account of differences in living costs, the repayment threshold in a foreign country will not necessarily be the same as in the UK. We will update the thresholds each year to take account of price changes.
